In a recent meeting of Joint Admission Board (JAB) for
IITs, it has been decided to set a high level ad hoc committee that will work
on the online process for JEE (Advanced). The committee will look into the
modalities of having an online Joint Entrance Exam for admission to IITs. But
the Online Process for JEE (Advanced) will come into spark only after 2014.
For the year 2014, the JEE Advanced is decided to be
conducted in the conventional pattern of paper & pen test.
During the meeting, the JAB had decided to form a panel
to examine the pros and cons of having an online admission test in IITs.
The committee will comprise academicians from various
areas including representatives from the 16 IITs as members, and is likely to
come into being this year. As per the sources, the IIT Bombay will take the
front in creating the committee.
“The committee will take a look into all parameters for
having an online exam. But if the change takes place, the students will be
notified almost a year in advance,” said official sources adding, “If approved
it could be enforced from 2015 or 2016.”
This recent JAB meeting further laid emphasis on the
decision taken in its last month’s meeting that there should be no change in
the top 20 percentile eligibility criteria for next year admission phase.
Among other important news regarding IIT admission is a
new proposal by the CBSE to conduct JEE Mains twice a year. However, the final
decision will be taken and announced, as per the sources, at a meeting of the
JEE apex body going to be held soon.
